Bus
The bus station is located 2 km from the centre of Kon Tum on Phan Dinh Phung Rd. Minivans to Pleiku depart regularly all day from 07:00 to 18:00, 30,000 dong. They can be flagged down anywhere on Phan Dinh Phung Rd between the bus station and the bridge, but arriving at the bus station will ensure you a more comfortable seat.
You can head to the Bo Y border with Laos from Kon Tum via the town Ngoc Hoi -- vans leave Kon Tum for Ngoc Hai when full from 07:00 to 17:00, 30,000 dong, 2 hours -- service from Ngoc Hoi to the border, however, is not very frequent, so you're best to leave Kon Tum early both to get a connection from Ngoc Hai to the border and also from the border onwards to Attapeu.
The other option is to catch a through bus to Attapeu at 10:00, departures from Kon Tum on Thursday, Friday, and Sunday only, US$20, four to five hours. Make sure you have a valid Laos visa before you hit the border -- no visa on arrival is available.
