Getting there and away
Lai Chau's bus station (T: (0231) 387 5180. Ticket Office Hours: 04:00 to 20:00 daily) is just under a kilometre from the centre of town, along the road towards Sapa, on the left. Buses to Lao Cai are the most frequent departure, and stop in Sapa along the way. There isn't much leaving after 14:00, except the Hanoi buses, so after that you'll have to try to flag something down along the road. Sample destinations below.
Dien Bien Phu: 9 departures between 05:00 and 13:00, costs 103,000 to 115,000 and takes around 6 hours
Hanoi Giap Bat: departs at 17:00, 18;00 and 19:30, costs 260,000 and takes 12 hours
Hanoi My Dinh: departs at 04:30, 05:00 then 10 departures between 16:00 and 20:00, costs 200,000 to 300,000 (sleepers are more expensive) and takes 12 hours.
Lao Cai: departs at 06:00, 06:30, 07:00, 07:45, 12:00, 13:30 and 16:00, costs 54,000 to 60,000 and taks 3 hours.
Muong Lay: Take bus to Dien Bien Phu, costs 60,000 and takes 3 hours.
Muong Te: departs at 05:00, 06:15 and 07:00, costs 98,000 to 110,000 and takes 7 hours.
Sinh Ho: departs at 06:00 and 13:30, costs 32,000 and takes 1.5 hours.
Thai Binh: departs at 18:00, costs 320,000
