Getting there and away
Bus
If you're not on a tour, minibuses to Bac Ha can be picked up at Lao Cai's Lien Tinh bus station across from the train station. Departures are at 06:30, 07:00, 12:00, 13:00 and 15:00, cost 35,000 VND, 2 hours. Getting to Lao Cai from Sapa is easy — just wait for a minibus in front of the church — 30,000 VND, takes an hour.
The Bac Ha bus station is across from the market. There are very few departures from here — it's mostly good for buses back to Lao Cai town, where most will then transfer to a bus to Sapa. Buy your ticket on the bus. If you're headed anywhere else, you'll have to sort out what road to stand on and wave something down. Buses to Simaxai drop off at the Can Cau market on Saturday mornings.
