Unfortunately we were in Ngwe Saung in low season and while we walked the long stretch of sand we were only able to find three resorts that were open. The others were abandoned or undergoing major renovations.
The Emerald Sea Resort was being renovated when we visited in the middle of 2013, but the rooms that were open were spotless and had all the amenities you could wish for (in Burma!): air-con, hot water showers (with tubs in the pricier rooms), WiFi, fully stocked minibar, TV, coffee and tea. Shwe Hin Tha Hotel is located on the southern end of Ngwe Saung Beach and consists of bamboo bungalows and a row of more upscale beach cottages. The fan-cooled bamboo bungalows and simple but clean, and have cold water showers, mosquito nets and balconies -- some contain comfy king size beds. A decent backup plan to next-door Shwe Hin Tha Hotel, Silver Coast offers slightly inferior rooms at similar prices. Two types of rooms are available: beach cottages with air-con and mini fridge, as well as a strip of fan rooms located further from the water.
