Accommodation

Kirirom

There are three resort-style properties on the mountain. The large and relatively new Kirirom Pine Resort offers camping and a range of interesting accommodations including the only (to our knowledge) cement pipe rooms in Cambodia. The lovely Kirirom Mountain Lodge is one of the properties from the king’s heyday, then there is the somewhat surreal Kirirom Hillside Resort at the foot of the mountain outside the national park.

At the bottom of the hill, Chi Phat Community Ecotourism Project offers an opportunity to explore Cambodian village life, as well as some of the surrounding hills.

We loved this place so much that we’re already planning our next trip back again. Kirirom Mountain Lodge sits at the end of a dusty track off the main road. It comprises two sophisticated restored villas — the feel is almost Mediterranean — with five rooms and one suite. A possibly 1960s villa set among the pines and renovated for a smart retreat. The rooms themselves are compact, but... Read our full review of Kirirom Mountain Lodge.

The homestays offer a special opportunity to experience Cambodia as it is lived by Cambodians, sharing space and meals with your host family. Well, provided you’re not too exhausted from trekking. There are 51 homestays within the four villages that participate in the programme (there are nine villages in Chambok commune altogether), and you will be assigned yours on rotation. The point is to... Read our full review of Chambok homestays.

We certainly did not expect to find this near the top of Kirirom Mountain. vKirirom Pine Resort is at the end of long, winding, pine-scented roads that give way to a huge property where you can choose to stay at a smart, poolside bungalow, camp out in a tent, spend the night in a converted concrete pipe, check out one of their luxury safari tents, or try out one of their wooden Khmer... A somewhat surreal experience awaits you at this long-running and popular resort at the foot of the mountain, just outside the boundaries of the national park. Set in richly tended gardens, populated by an esoteric — and occasionally sinister — array of Disney characters and dinosaurs, Kirirom Hillside Resort offers a chance to unwind beside their large pool, or work up a sweat with some...
