Accommodation

Jepara

If you’ve arrived in Jepara from Semarang or Yogyakarta, you may be surprised by the accommodation prices here: they’re simply not as good value, and the choice is much more limited. The town centre offers a few business hotels, mostly of the scrappy local variety, but a couple of guesthouses expand the options and there’s three seaside areas to choose: the bay south of town, Teluk Awur, harbours a handful of resort-type hotels, as does the area around Bandengan Beach to the north. Or if you’re heading to Karimunjawa and want to be close to the port, Pantai Kartini supplies a string of basic homestays.

After a seaside resort with a chill beach party vibe in Jepara? Oce-an View Residence Hotel sits absolute beachfront, about three kilometres south of the town centre. Modernist stark white double-storey blocks form a U-shape around the sparking deep-royal-blue swimming pool facing the beach and private jetty bar as cool tunes pump it out from the sound system. As with most of the... Read our full review of Oce-an View Residence Hotel.

Overlooking ricefields, smack in the centre of town, cute and funky Sriya Cafe & Homestay is a terrific spot to try some local flavours. We ventured over for the food, but were happy to discover they offer three pleasant flashpacker style rooms.
