Where to stay in Yasothon

Yasothon

Most of Yasothon’s hotels could use some upgrades—we reckon they rake in money during the rocket festival while struggling to turn a profit for the rest of the year. All of them cater mainly to Thais and you’ll find no guesthouses geared towards foreign travellers. Room rates jump by 40 to 60% during the festival, when there’s often a minimum stay of two nights.

The well-kept rooms at B.M. Grand place you a block away from the night market and within easy walking distance of the Ban Singha old town, making this small hotel a good choice if you don’t have a vehicle. The place doesn’t look like much from the front with its rusted balcony gates dotting a featureless concrete exterior standing above the car park. It’s an old hotel but, at some... The RP City Hotel is a little cheaper than B.M. Grand and it sits towards the east side of town, making for a shorter walk to the giant toad and the rocket festival grounds at Phaya Thaen Park. The four-floor concrete building is an eyesore and the portico doesn’t help much, but we didn’t mind the open-sided reception area with some fitness machines overlooking the car park. The... The Green Park Grand has a wide variety of clean rooms that were the best we saw in Yasothon, but only if you don’t mind staying a couple of kilometres north of downtown and further from the rocket festival grounds. This is a large property with a couple of buildings and while the lime-green trim and huge portico topped by orange lettering reminded us of the entrance to Morchit bus terminal,...
