Since travellers invariably find themselves sleeping In Tha Ton before or after the Kok River trip, there is a wide selection of accommodation in town and its immediate vicinity. A couple of simple places are strung along the main road, a few guesthouses including mid-range Saranya are down by the pier while the famed Apple, plus newbie Inter View, are on the far side of the river. The old Tha Ton Chalet, overlooking the Mae Nam Kok from just across the bridge, is now sadly closed but the lane down behind it leads to several riverside, resort-style set ups. Of these, River View Resort is definitely showing its age while Khunmai Baansuan has had a recent makeover. Garden Home and Garden Riverside down the same lane remain reasonable, if not first choice, options. Some of the longer standing chalet resorts seem to be suffering somewhat from a change in Tha Ton’s tourist demographic (the same goes for most of these smaller northern towns outside hotspots such as Pai, Chiang Mai and Chiang Khong), where in recent years Western backpackers looking for cheap and cheerful bungalows have been usurped by local tourists hankering after air-con and cable TV.
Khunmai Baan Suan is the most upmarket choice of a string of riverside resorts in Tha Ton, and is a great option as it offers well-appointed chalets or rooms set amid spectacular gardens. Turning left after the Tha Ton Chalet takes you down a narrow lane past the riverside resorts: Baansuan is tucked some 500 metres away, but before the Thaton River View Resort. Their spacious garden with... Read our full review of Khunmai Baan Suan Resort.
Apple Resort is Tha Ton’s best known and most popular guesthouse, and probably justifiably so with its hard to beat formula of great location, value for money rooms and efficient, friendly service. Apple is situated right on the bank of the Mae Kok, down the right hand lane on the east side of the bridge, with excellent views of the river, town and Wat Tha Ton. River-view chalets don’t... Saranya River House offers excellent rooms set around a pool in a great location, with solid traveller services as well. A classy new entry into Tha Ton’s growing number of places to stay as of September 2015, Saranya seems intent on setting itself up as the town’s primary one-stop traveller’s destination. The hotel offers bicycle rentals, motorbike hire, boat hire, ticket sales, a busy... Read our full review of Saranya River House.
Long-running Garden Home Nature Resort has wood and concrete chalets a touch past their prime but set in a pleasant orchard of mango and lychee trees and well-priced for what's on offer. Slightly hidden down the lane heading north after the bridge, you wonder how they manage to hide so many chalets so well. The air-con or fan-cooled chalets are rather unimaginatively laid out in long straight... Read our full review of Garden Home Nature Resort.
New Ton Guesthouse offers just four clean, pleasantly decorated rooms in an orange-painted block set back off the road, with a good restaurant located just out front. Rooms are on the small side but come with ensuite hot showers, cable TV and WiFi. It's not a bad deal for a year-round price of 350 baht. Rooms are quiet enough since they’re set in the rear yard; the boat pier is across the... Read our full review of New Ton Guesthouse.
Thaton Garden Riverside has been around for a while and while somewhat past its prime, it remains a reasonably priced and conveniently located option. Garden River Side is the first you come to down the lane past the old TT Chalet so a minute or so from the bridge and main drag. It’s not a large ‘resort’ (if you can call it that) and on a good day you might call it cosy or on a bad one,... Read our full review of Thaton Garden River Side .
The oddly named Thaton Inter View offers comfortable rooms in a two-storey brick house near the Kok River that represent a very good deal for the price. A pale yellow-trimmed guesthouse is a relatively new (as of mid-2015) and welcome entry in Tha Ton’s riverside accommodation range and is well located. You'll find it immediately next to the Sanay Chainam Restaurant and indeed, if we... Read our full review of Thaton Inter View.
If you feel more comfortable in a hotel-style environment or simply must have air-con, then white-and-yellow Thung Tong is the place for you. Although basically a generic sales-rep-type hotel, both the interior and exterior are better maintained and decorated than the average in this class. The air-con rooms are clean and spacious, and come with attached hot shower bathrooms plus WiFi. Rooms on... Read our full review of Thung Tong Hotel.
