Where to stay in Wiang Haeng

Wiang Haeng

To be frank decent options are few and far between in Wiang Haeng itself and your best choices—unless you’re on a serious budget—are to be found up the road in Piang Luang Village. The long-standing Chiangtung House is still going, if for whatever reason you’re stuck in town, offering basic but cheap rooms though most of the alternative, motel-style options are best avoided.

You’ll see a sign for the longstanding Chiangtung House on the right-hand side as you enter town. Run by a friendly, elderly Shan couple from Kengtung in Burma’s Shan State, this is your best budget bet in Wiang Haeng proper. Set in a small yard/carpark just off the main road you’ll find the reception and cafe area immediately to your left followed by two one-storey white blocks housing... Piang Luang

Right by the Piang Luang entrance gate is the excellent Ginggarla with a choice of comfortable fan or air-con rooms in a two-storey wood-clad block. If you prefer chalet style accommodation the Huen Mhok Khan Resort, on the far side of the village as you exit towards Lak Taeng, offers spacious, clean and modern bungalows.

Formerly we think the Piang Luang Guesthouse, Ginggarla is located directly opposite the Thai army post just on the left as you arrive at the town gate. A newly added coffee shop, bar and restaurant lies next to a two-storey, varnished wood-clad block housing four air-conditioned rooms downstairs and four fan-cooled alternatives on the first floor. A lawn-cum carpark separates the building... Read our full review of Ginggarla.

A newish spot just on the north side of town as you exit towards Lak Taeng, the Heun Mhok Kham has a choice of air-con cooled chalets in a garden or fan rooms in a one-storey block. “Resort” is pushing it a bit and unfortunately aside from a sachet of instant coffee and a round of 7-eleven bread, for breakfast facilities are non-existent. This is a shame as the terrace in their cafe area... Read our full review of Heun Mhok Kham Resort.
