Where to stay in Si Satchanalai

Si Satchanalai and Chaliang

Sprinkled into the Chaliang ruins within two kilometres of virtually all of the area’s historical sites, a couple of family-run homestays are good options for experiencing rural Thai hospitality. If you have your own vehicle, you could stay at one of a few cheap Thai-style resorts, such as Bann Suan and Sri Satchanalai Resort, found between Si Satchanalai town and the historical park off Highway 101. For something more upscale, consider Chanalai Resort, located just east of Si Satchanalai town off Highway 102.

Occupying a large wood-and-cement house in a good location, Papong Homestay offers comfortable rooms in a main house and a couple of rooms with furnished terraces in an attached building out back. All rooms come with private hot-water bathrooms, air-con, firm double beds, several windows and TVs. The 500-baht editions on the ground floor are fine, though we’d probably cough up an extra 100...
