Go for an ensuite room
A popular budget choice with a handy location close to Restaurant Row, Shwe Na Di offers beds in a dormitory or rooms with shared bathroom or ensuite.
Low season rates are some of the cheapest in town.
Though rooms are okay, the shared bathrooms aren’t great and aren’t even on the same floor as some rooms. And while there are better choices about at the pricepoint of their air-con rooms. with 40 rooms on offer, it might be worth keeping this option in mind if everything else fills.
An older block houses the fan-cooled rooms while a new, two-storey pink building across the alley contains their air-con with private bathroom offerings. Interiors are devoid of decor but clean and new. Ground floor ones come with a pair of cane chairs on a tiny terrace. (Although they do overlook the carpark.) Being new, air-con works well and mattresses seem comfortable.
We found the staff very friendly. The simple included breakfasts get good reports and, as Shwe Na Di is popular, this makes for a good spot to meet fellow travellers. A new communal area and reception was under construction when we visited in mid-2016. They seemed a bit vague about rates so we’d guess this is another of those spots where price depends on how they’re feeling and how busy they are at the time. This isn’t a bad choice for the money, with only minimal high season supplements.
