The guesthouse has a bit of funky character from the outside, and though the interior doesn’t quite live up to the promise, you can't really beat a $7 bed in Bagan.
The guesthouse is on the corner of Main Road and the side lane leading down to Shwezigon, so Restaurant Row is only a five-minute walk away. The old entrance building contains some dingy, thin-walled fan-cooled rooms with clean-ish shared bathrooms -- though out in the yard, so not very convenient -- going for the cheapest rate we could find in town. A new block at the rear of the adjacent carpark has cleaner, brighter air-con rooms if you have a few more bucks to spend. With no high season supplement, these too are about the cheapest we found in this particular range.
Interiors are functional with little attempt at decor but they are spacious enough and appear well maintained, with efficient air-con and attached hot-water showers. Upstairs ones came with balconies but no chairs, though the view is over the guesthouse carpark.
For a published $22 during high season, with air-con and hot water, we reckon this is a good deal, though unusually breakfast isn’t included. We’re a bit more sceptical about the fan-cooled rooms: the small fans looked like they’d have a job keeping the room cool during hot season.
