This cute little converted family home has much more of a homestay, or at best guesthouse, feel to it than hotel.
Beauty isn’t any more appropriate than hotel, either, but the grey and green painted two-storey house does have a certain old-style guesthouse character to it. No new room blocks have been added alongside and there’s no sunset rooftop terrace. There aren’t many spots around like this anymore.
Rooms are what you’d expect in an old wooden house. Think basic decor, thinnish walls and limited facilities. They do all come with air-con and ensuite hot water showers and seem clean and well looked after, albeit slightly musty -- though this is a bit par for the course for wooden rooms in a tropical climate. You probably wouldn’t want to spend too long in the bathrooms either.
Beauty's official address is Main Road but the entrance is on Khayea Pin Street, so it's well placed for the local restaurants and cafes and just a short walk down to the river. The family is friendly, there’s a cosy feel to the place and they are the cheapest private rooms we found in New Bagan. Note that breakfast for once is not included, but the very good Golden Bamboo Cafe is right next door.
