Great for families
A change of style from most of Nyaung U’s small hotel and guesthouse options, longstanding Thante has bungalows scattered around a well-kept, lush garden. While it's nothing flashy, it's comfortable, attractive and friendly. For what you get it's excellent value, and a particularly good spot if you’re travelling with kids.
There’s an old school feel to Thante and while bungalows have clearly been well maintained and renovated over the years, it’s hardly Old Bagan-boutique. There is a good atmosphere to the place; it does have a good pool and it does have good prices. The bungalows were freshly painted when we last visited in mid-2016 -- both inside and out -- and all come with pleasant private balconies.
Interiors have efficient air-con, fridges, cable TV and attached bathrooms with tubs. Decor is simple but floors are finished with varnished parquet and furniture is of a decent quality. All bungalows looked pretty similar to us; prices vary based on how many people are staying.
The pool is large and surrounded by mature trees. You won’t go hungry at Thante either, as aside from their own restaurant plus in-house bakery, the compound is shared with the excellent Sanon Restaurant, one of Nyaung U’s top dining options.
Thante's location is at the northern end of Nyaung U Town near the junction where the airport road and Anawrahta diverge. It's about a five-minute stroll down to the market or 10 minutes or so up to Restaurant Row.
