Good low season deal
A spacious garden and decent sized pool accompany the standard format room blocks at this good mid-range address.
Well, good for low season anyway, as we don’t think more than doubling rates in peak periods can be justified.
The two-storey room rows are better than many, with plenty of carved wood finishing off the bare red brickwork. A red-tiled reception and restaurant has a terrace and rainy season seating. The included buffet breakfast gets good reports and it’s a pleasant spot for a late afternoon beer or morning coffee too. The hotel also has its own spa, though rates are on the pricey side. Interiors, both bedrooms and bathrooms, are clean, spacious but spartan in decoration, while all rooms do come with balconies. Deluxe versions are slightly larger and situated in a newer block.
The pool receives shade from a few adjacent trees, has a wide lawn in front for dry season eating and drinking and a cool little bar with straw roof at the other end.
The location is down the quiet Myat Lay Road, so around a 10-minute walk from the town centre and restaurants. Bawga Theiddhi is very good value for money during low season but forget about high.
