Good value for money
Yadanarpon Dynasty looks more upmarket than it is, offering two rows of chalet-style rooms set in a garden with a pathway leading to the main five-storey building at the rear. The garden’s hardly a lush jungle, but it’s well maintained and gives a pleasant green aspect to the verandas of the comfortable chalets (they call them villas).
The solidly built chalets are actually three rooms each positioned side by side, with two-tiered high roofs. Though they’re more expensive than the rooms in the main building, you have the disadvantage of having every other hotel guest pass right in front of your balcony as they go to and from their rooms. The chalet blocks are closer to the road, too, and though interiors are agreeably decorated, with lots of dark wood and welcome mosquito nets, we’d stick with the better deal, but equally well appointed, superior or deluxe rooms in the main building.
Of these, superiors are mainly located at the rear with limited views, while deluxe come with balconies offering fine views over the city. Otherwise the two categories are very similar. Both are spacious and simply decorated, while clean and bright and featuring efficient air-con, cable TV, minibars, tea- and coffee-making facilities and well-designed bathrooms with tubs.
The ground floor has a spacious lobby and restaurant area on top of which are three levels of rooms, followed by a rooftop seating area serving as a dry season bar/cafe area. There’s not a big jump to high season prices, which is good to see, meaning Dynasty is good value year-round. If Yadanarpon Dynasty was in Bagan, we reckon prices could easily be doubled, so this isn’t a good option if it falls within your budget.
