A fine riverside location and low prices are Gypsy Inn’s main selling points -- otherwise it doesn't have too much going for it.
The Inn is set in an imposing two-storey pale yellow villa on the Nyaung Shwe waterfront.

Air-con rooms are upstairs in the main building while an older block to one side has the fan rooms. The latter come with either shared or private bathroom, with the ensuite version only costing $3 more. Both were slightly dingey and shared bathroom versions small -- but then what can you expect for that price! Air-con rooms were much larger and appeared better maintained with improved furniture, but then there is a lot of choice in town for $25.
Although the riverside setting is good, it is directly opposite one of the busiest jetties, so it could get noisy. Overall we found Gypsy Inn lacked any charm or atmosphere, and the communal areas were uninspiring. Although they were pleasant enough when we visited we have heard numerous reports of unenthusiastic staff but there is plenty of useful travelling information in reception.
WiFi access is in the reception area only and breakfasts are uninspiring. If they don’t increase prices for high season – and they weren’t sure about 2016-2017 rates when we enquired – then it’s worth bearing in mind if your budget is ultra-tight, or the air-con rooms of all your other choices are full.
