Pyi Guesthouse

Pyi Guesthouse

Very friendly, plenty of cool communal areas

More on Inle Lake

Funky flashpacker fave Pyi Guesthouse (pronounced “pee”) is found amid a growing and eclectic range of accommodation along Phaung Daw Pyan Road.

Travelfish says:

The extremely friendly couple running the spot showed us spic and span rooms and plenty of nooks and crannies for beer drinking. This is a great spot if you’ve got a few extra dollars to spare.

Rooms are simply decorated but immaculately looked after and well-appointed. Upstairs is home to a cafe, downstairs has terrace seating, plus there is a street-level bar with stools, and a garden cafe as well. It was all very quiet when we visited on a rainy season morning but you can imagine this gets quite lively in high season; even if you don’t elect to stay here, it looks like a fun spot to hang out. Consequently we fear certain rooms could be on the noisy side, so bear this in mind when choosing yours.

Rooms are huge and clean, though compared to the area allowed for eating and drinking, they’re few in number. Nine bungalow-type rooms and five newer rooms in the main three-storey brick building are on offer. The brick bungalows are aligned in two rows and offer air-con plus small verandas. Inside the red brick and white walled rooms are decorated simply and well maintained. Ditto for the rooms in the main house, some of which come with excellent balconies boasting views across town. While they didn’t specify family rates as such, some of these rooms could easily sleep four, so it would be worth enquiring here if you’re travelling with kids.

All rooms offer cable TV (for what it’s worth), minibar, safe, WiFi, breakfast and all-day free tea and coffee. Breakfasts are recommended and in high season there will be restaurant service. Reception also has a small library for guest use.
