The Princess Hotel is the most popular spot in Kengtung for midrange travellers and tour groups.

The hotel is located a five-minute walk from the market and close to the town's old east gate. They're reputed to be the most reliable in terms of advance room and trekking bookings and will send guides to meet visitors at Tachileik but they don't have many rooms and in high season are continually busy. (Well, there are actually 20 or so rooms but many are in the basement and have no windows.) Rooms aren't anything special – it's the service people come for – but they are adequate with the usual midrange facilities of tea and coffee, fridge, TV, air-con, hot shower and WiFi (which even works on occasions!) Staff are efficient; there's trekking info, a spacious lobby and a downstairs seating area though the inclusive breakfast is also served in the claustrophobic basement. One should balance their organisational capabilities against the high room price -- overall this isn't the best choice in Kengtung unless perhaps you're buying a Kengtung 'package'. Their excellent free maps of the town and area are worth a couple of bucks but as we said – it'll be hard to find rooms during high season anyway.
