Lucky Bright Hotel
A bit cruddy
No. 53, Phaung Daw Side Rd T: (081) 209 137, (081) 209 642
The Lucky Bright Hotel is an ageing building that appears to be run by a group of teens glued to a television.
It's in a quiet area, across the street from a large and abandoned 'sports field' and a five-minute walk from several restaurants and the canal. Photos of the rooms on the hotel's website didn't quite resemble what we were shown: cruddy bathrooms and cheap/bubbling vinyl flooring. The hotel is getting on, has an uncomfortable atmosphere and its views don't compare to other options in the area. WiFi is available in all rooms and a simple breakfast of tea or coffee, fruit and toast is offered. Traditional Burmese breakfast is available if arranged in advanced. The triples at $60 are overpriced -- if you're travelling as a trio, check out the Golden Empress for a better room at nearly half the cost. The doubles, at $25, are inferior to those found at Golden Empress and Inle Star Motel.
