Friendly and comfortable
Monywa Hotel offers garden-set bungalows a short walk away from the centre of town and has an appealing atmosphere. While the Monyway does look like it’s been around for a while, it’s been well maintained and some sections have clearly seen renovation.
Prices are comparable to Hotel Chindwin so if you prefer that slightly colonial bungalow feel, this would fit the bill. The cute white-painted bungalows are well spaced in the lovely garden, plus there is a newer two-storey block with superior rooms, all of which come with balconies. All rooms are clean and large, though devoid of much in the way of decor. They all offer air-con, WiFi, minibar, cable TV, hot water ensuite bathrooms and breakfast.
While the bungalows we checked had a faint musty odour, this is par for the course for wooden rooms in a garden during the monsoon. We doubt it’s nothing that an hour’s airing wouldn’t rectify and they were certainly clean.
Located on Bogyoke as it leaves the town centre to the north, you could walk down to the night market in about 10 minutes, while Pleasant Garden Restaurant and the Win Unity pool are around the same distance in the opposite direction. Perhaps with the nearby Unity in mind prices have remained low for what it is.
