Great location, good deal
It doesn’t look much from the outside, but little Galaxy Motel is a delight.
The air-con, comfortable rooms are all one simple price and nothing fancy, but what makes Galaxy is the super friendly, helpful and fun owner. Her manner is infectious and all the staff – mainly extended family – can’t do enough to help.
At $22 for a single or double, it’s not the cheapest choice in town, but the air-con and hot water worked, the WiFi was one of the most effective we came across in town and the bed, unlike some we found in the area, allowed a decent night’s sleep. The price does include a decent breakfast in their small, adjacent cafe. Maps, information and transport bookings are available and they’ll dig you up bicycles and motorbikes for 2,000 and 6,000 kyat per day respectively. Cold drinks are on offer in their cafe too, but we’d like to see them make more of their fourth floor open rooftop area, which is crying out for a couple of chairs and table. Galaxy is conveniently located on the corner of Thidar and Thit Lar Streets.
