Not quite paradise but good!
Beachside 21 Paradise is the clear pick of the bunch along developing Setse Beach.
They offer an array of one- and two-storey chalets set in a garden around a well-sized pool directly facing a quiet section of the beach.
The resort is relatively new as of early 2016. Rooms are spotless and services will no doubt improve as they bed in. Up until recently Setse was very much restricted to local visitors and while they are now broadening their appeal to catch the new influx of foreign visitors, do not expect international standards just yet.
The rooms lack decoration but are otherwise bright white, airy, spacious and well appointed, with air-con, cable TV, fridge, hot shower ensuite bathroom, comfortable beds and even WiFi -- though in such a remote spot it was not surprisingly ropey. Breakfast is included in the rate. They have a good choice of dining areas with a pleasantly set out restaurant directly on the beach plus tables and chairs around the pool and garden. The emphasis is on seafood but prices aren’t too bad, with Sino-Burmese, Thai and Western options.
We’ve heard reports of poor service but there are plentiful staff -- to us they just seemed shy, with limited language skills. We think they’re just not so used to foreign visitors yet. Rates compare very favourably with those at equivalent resorts at more touristy Ngwe Saung or Ngapali for instance.
Here we’ve cited their published walk-in rates. Outside of weekends they’re sure to offer substantial discounts, particularly if you stay two or three nights. They had no single options advertised, but presumably a discount may be available for one-person occupancy. There are around eight rows of chalets, with prices decreasing as you get further away from the beach. Apart from the superiors, which are apartment-style rooms in a two-storey block, the rest are identical with just the view changing.
