This oddly shaped little building doesn’t look too bad from the outside but is home to some pretty dingy and musty rooms within.

We were offered a small, fan-cooled single for $10, which is what passes for budget in Dawei, or a spacious three-bed air-con room for $20. The former was musty and not inviting while the latter was airier and more comfortable, though the whole place has a very rundown feel and lacked any communal meeting or seating areas. Garden Hotel across the road, undergoing renovation when we passed, ought to provide some cheap fan options which when finished which would be much better. For now the fancily named but shabby Dream Emperor is only for those on a very tight budget, or suffering nostalgia for Khao San Road guesthouses 30 years ago.
