Friendly with a market view
You Hong Guesthouse is central and easily accessible, with small but cool rooms that are shaded from the sun by a neighbouring building.
The accommodation is basic — which you’d expect for the price —but clean, and comes with hot water, which you won’t get everywhere. The manager was very helpful, spoke excellent English, and can also provide advice, assistance on forward travel, tours and local information. Downstairs, a restaurant/bar has a huge menu of Western and Khmer dishes and comfy banquette-style seating. If you’re sleeping towards the front of the building, you’d better be an early riser, as the market starts up early. If you prefer being in this area, but You Heng is full, you could check out Star Guesthouse — above Tokae Restaurant — on the west side of the market. Check out the mattress before agreeing to take any particular room though. Some of them looked punishing.
