Silver Dolphin

A strong backpacker option with an airy rooftop bar looking right on to the river and across to Koh Trong, Silver Dolphin offers rooms, a dorm, tours and tickets in English and French.

Photo of Silver Dolphin We were a little nonplussed, though, to have to wait to see the rooms because the owner was playing cards with his buddies, and so he hollered for his heavily pregnant wife to come out of wherever she was escaping from the heat, who, once mobilised and present, in turn hollered for the 10-year-old to take us around for a tour of the rooms. This would appear to be something of an habitual approach. Our last review very kindly described it as “friendly, but very laidback”. Perhaps we were hotter and grumpier on our most recent visit and failed to see the funny side. Nonetheless, it's a 10-minute walk south of where the Phnom Penh bus drops you off, away from most of the other guesthouses in town. The rooms are basic and decent, with hot water showers. The dorm is on the rooftop, accessed through the bar, has big bunks and tiny lockers.

Designed for the first-time visitor, this travel guide includes detailed maps plus accommodation, food, activities and transport information for Kompong Cham, Kratie, Stung Treng, Banlung and Sen Monorom.
