Le Bungalow is an interesting, higher-end addition to the Kratie accommodation scene, with the traditional Khmer house offering three beautiful upstairs rooms, each independently designed and furnished and littered with gorgeous antiques.
Two of the rooms are ensuite, while one has a separate — and quite dingy — bathroom/shower downstairs. This is where you’ll also find the very lovely bar and restaurant area, with an extensive menu of Khmer, French and Italian dishes that are not outlandishly priced, though may be slightly more than other offerings in Kratie. It’s a genuinely nicer place to be though, so you get what you pay for. This brings us to the one, major, fly in the soup.
The staffing can only be described as sweet, but chaotic. At best. We have no idea how the owner managed to lumber himself with such an inexperienced crew — there was one outstandingly wonderful exception, who it turned out actually worked at sister property, Rajabori Villas
on Koh Trong — but they need training. Badly. This is a lovely property that deserves (demands) a commensurate quality of staff. And while we can’t deny the possibility that such a thing exists, we have yet to meet the armoire that can exalt or degrade a guest’s experience in quite the same way a staff member can.
