Chanthea Borint Hotel offers comfortable-enough rooms in various buildings scattered around a courtyard, so although it is popular with local travellers -- it's an excellent deal -- you’ll be unlikely to have availability issues.
Despite the name, Chanthea Borint Hotel is firmly guesthouse style and indeed is better known by its old name, Sokha Guesthouse. Apparently a certain large hotel chain informed them in no uncertain terms that they couldn’t use the Sokha name; Chanthea is the owner’s name and Borint her grandson’s. Chanthea Borint does lack Garden Guesthouse
’s cuteness and family ambience, but the rooms are fine and well-priced; it certainly offers a more than acceptable alternative should nearby Garden, our top pick for Kompong Chhnang, be full. Rooms are spacious, acceptably clean and come with WiFi, air-con, cable TV, fridge, build-in wardrobes and hot showers. Though furnishings are minimal, beds are comfortable enough. At $15 for a double, this is a good deal!
Reception and fan rooms are in the original villa, with a wooden second floor, while a two-storey building houses air-con rooms. A second block towards the rear contains long-stay rooms with attached kitchenettes (prices negotiable). A large upstairs cafe serves a not-included breakfast; if you want anything more than tea or coffee, you’re best warning them the evening before.
Chanthea speaks good English and some French, and is happy to organise transport and ticket services or to provide suggestions and local tips. Bicycles are $1 per day and a small motorbike $5. Chanthea Borint Hotel is found in the rows of large houses and villas to the south of Kompong Chhnang's centre.
