Chillin' by the river
A joint Khmer-Western venture, Naga House is the cool kid on the riverside block and a super-loungey hangout.
There’s a friendly atmosphere and an emphasis on fun, with relaxed days and weekend party nights with live music on the deck overlooking the river. Naga House and next door’s Banyan Tree share the gigs with Banyan hosting live music on Fridays and Naga on Saturdays.
Popular with backpackers, who come for two days and stay for a week, the nine bungalows are clean and well-swept, with minimal furniture, fans and well-maintained shared bathrooms. The ones on the ground are perfectly adequate, but the stilted treehouses give something extra, with three-quarter walls for added freshness and views. Fifteen budget dorm beds get the benefit of two balconies for hammock relaxation. The welcoming bar/restaurant serves up good portions of tasty food, and their special Rock Star Breakfast, which comes with whiskey, black coffee and a packet of cigarettes. Staff are pleased to share their local knowledge and can book tickets and tours, as well as river trips on their own boat.
