Basic but bearable
Classic Cambodian decorating has hit Duong Chai hard -- the building is a memorable lime green, a colour theme that vaguely seems to continue inside with green floor tiles, towels or shower curtains in some rooms.
Nonetheless, with four twin rooms and six double rooms, all ensuite, the rooms are easily nicer than the other local offering over at Meanchey Guesthouse. Our moto driver definitively agreed. Each fan room has a TV, showerhead in the wet bathroom and Western flush toilet. Free water bottles are provided and towels are made into fan shapes on the bed, so it at least feels like some effort has been made to welcome guests here. The drawback is that there’s no restaurant on site and it’s a short walk to the village to find sustenance, while at Meanchey it’s right next door. The owner lives on the premises and seemed surprised to see a potential customer in us, but was happy to show us around. Only Khmer is spoken here.

Caroline swapped the drizzle of Old Blighty for the dazzling sunshine of Siem Reap and she spends most weekends cycling the temple-studded terrain that she can call her backyard.
