Fun and funky, in a good location with a pleasant setting, friendly atmosphere and not least an imaginative name, Here Be Dragons is our top backpacker choice in town.
The guesthouse has a central though quiet location in an old very art deco riverfront villa on the east bank of the Sangkar, roughly halfway between Hun Sen and Sar Kheng bridges. It’s set in a garden, with a restaurant and bar downstairs and rooms upstairs. The rooms are fairly basic but clean and not too cramped and rates are good for both fan and air-con options. They also have private rooms with hot or cold water.
The restaurant serves a huge menu of well-priced Khmer, Thai and Western dishes and the bar is fun and often lively. It’s under English and Khmer management. They have bus and boat tickets available along with local tour bookings and information. They also have an active social schedule with classic movie screenings, rooftop yoga/pilates, barbecues, a pub quiz and tons more. There’s pretty much no excuse for ever being bored, and if you are, there are plenty of nice chill out areas for you to be so in.
