No-frills but adequate
Raksmey Sokon Guesthouse is a standard Cambodian one, with spacious, clean rooms, comfortable beds, a TV, WiFi, fridge and hot water showers.
It’s no frills, but it more than adequately meets your needs, especially at the price. We were unable to find an English-speaker here, but there is a number for a local guide on the desk, who you could hire to help you out. The staff were as helpful as they could be under the circumstances. There is a restaurant on the site, but when we visited it appeared to have been closed or under renovation. Raksmey Sokon is slightly over a kilometre out of town. It’s walkable, but the road in is quite busy.

She has lived in England, Ireland, France, Spain and India, but decided that her tribe and heart are in Cambodia, where she has lived since 2007 despite repeated attempts to leave. She dreams of being as tough as Dervla Murphy, but fears there may be a long way to go. She can’t stand whisky for starters. She was a researcher, writer and coordinator for The Angkor Guidebook: Your Essential Companion to the Temples, now one of the best-selling guidebooks to the temples.
