Classy urban bolthole

More on Siem Reap

Architect-designed Pages is a classy bolt-hole in the middle of busy Wat Bo.

Travelfish says:

The architect, or architects, in question are locally-based Asma, and they not only designed but also own Pages, which comprises a hotel, cafe, apartments and office rental space. With just nine rooms and two small apartments built around a long lap pool and garden area, the space is intimate and comfortable, with strong graphic lines and bold colours creating a modern, even futuristic feel.

Notwithstanding that, the cafe at the front has a decidedly 60s vibe about - which is likely when the original building was built - which is not in conflict with the rest of the building. The dedication to design seems to unify the whole. The rooms are large (25 and 30 square metres), especially for the price, and beautifully done out with ample use of polished concrete — which creates a softer look than you might at first imagine. Gorgeous original tiles, natural wood, and ample use of neutral colours that maintain the softness and nicely balance out the graphic, straight lines that define the rooms.

The rooms have the essentials, including a writing desk, mini bar, safety box, tea- and coffee-making facilities and TV. Things are a little more vibrant outside, with the 25-metre ocean green pool and emerald green poolside loungers. The cafe serves up a mix of Western and Khmer food, and is a wonderful space in its own right, open-aired, light and breezy.

Those interested in staying longer might want to check out the apartments which, at 52 square metres, provide ample space for one or two, or slightly more cramped space for four. The upstairs apartment is joined by a bridge, which neatly doubles as a kind of “private” terrace. The apartments can be rented monthly, for around $750, though this may change depending upon the time of year.
