Pondok Pisces boasts a collection of traditional houses and bungalows at their main hilltop location off Balian Beach, as well down on the flat beside the river and behind the beach itself.

Originally run by Tom and Tati (a very friendly Australian and Indonesian couple), Tom passed away in 2009 and Tati isn't so much on the scene these days -- perhaps the intention was for the equally friendly staff to run it themselves, but, at least for the hilltop property, this isn't the gem it once was. Gardens are still lovely, but more overgrown than lovingly tended as they once were, and the rooms have some serious maintenance issues that really make the prices here a bit cheeky. The riverside property though, still looks to be in pretty good nick, with kitchenettes and the hidden away location, with a lovely little pool, remains oh so lovely. On the upside, the restaurant remains extremely good and even if you are not staying here, drop by for a meal. Reservations recommended. Prices are by the room -- check their website for details.
