Although billed as a “surf camp”, Tregge sits an easily walkable one kilometre from the waves, and this very friendly and sweet family-run homestay set within a lovely peaceful garden is very much worth considering.

Back from the main road, two rows of simple but well maintained bungalows face each other through the lush foliage. Choose from the basic fan-cooled room with cold-water bathroom or the more comfortable air-con room with hot-water. Tiled rooms are clean and airy with the fan room equipped with a mozzie-netted bed, a standard fan and not much else. The no-frills, older-style bathroom is scrubbed clean and equipped with a Western throne with a tiny washbasin located within the main room.

The air-con room offers a much more homey and inviting interior, adding a desk, wardrobe, bedside tables and lamps. Although there was no mozzie net here, the bed looked more comfortable and the cool air-con should keep the mozzies at bay. The ensuite bathroom is also somewhat basic, but newer and with a larger washbasin than the budget rooms (although still in the main room).

Both styles of rooms enjoy furnished terraces to kick back and listen to the birdsong and watch the flowers grow, although you may have to fight one of the resident cats for a seat. Breakfast is not included, but is available at the onsite warung as are other meals.

Like the rooms, interiors are simple.

Although a number of similar basic homestay can be found around the Uluwatu, the friendliness of this little place really made an impression and the quiet location is perfect for a good nights sleep. Alternatively you may consider Kiki Homestay, but if you would prefer a swimming pool, old-school style Gobleg Inn is worth a look although the rooms are somewhat basic, or for a little more charm, Satria Bungalow offers a good deal.
