Hidden amid the small maze of hotels next to Candi Dasa’s lagoon, D’Tunjung offers two styles of oceanfront bungalows and is a good solid midrange option.

Mostly sea-facing deluxe bungalows are arranged around a large manicured lawn with landscaped gardens leading to the oceanfront infinity pool. In a separate area, a neat line of smaller standard bungalows set further back in the garden afford slightly obscured sea views. On first impression the red brick deluxe bungalows are fairly ordinary looking. But a closer inspection reveals a recently renovated interior that is rather appealing — they were still applying finishing touches when we visited February 2016.
A distressed patinated yellow finish has been applied to doors, window frames and trims, brightening the exterior and adding a rustic-modern style. The good-sized tiled air-con rooms have retained their original high ceilings with exposed beams. Along with a fresh coat of white paint, they feel bright and airy. Simple and stylish wooden beds and cantilevered bedside shelves with lamps are finished with the same yellow patina. A platform extending beyond the mattress gives the impression that the bed is floating in space — watch out for the pointy corners at knee height! Mozzie-netted beds sport crisp white sateen striped linen, highlighted with a bed-runner in a dark muted check. Other furnishings include a large open shelving unit with hanging space, tea-making facilities and a safe, along with a wooden desk, flatscreen TV and minibar. Semi-outdoor hot-water bathrooms have large bath tubs with a separate garden shower.

Verandas are furnished with wooden tables and chairs and all but two of the deluxe bungalows have good ocean views. The ones without are the same price, so request a room with a view. The smaller standard bungalows are renovated in the same style, and appointed with the same amenities as the deluxe rooms. The major difference, apart from size, is that the exterior is painted white, and the sea view is a little further away, across the garden. We did feel they were a little cramped, so if your budget can stretch, go for the deluxe.

A sea-facing infinity pool with gorgeous views to the islands is one of the better pools in this area. Good-sized and rectangular shaped, its simple style offers a wooden sun-deck, a couple of deckchairs and some umbrellas. Non-guests eating at the poolside open-air restaurant are able use the pool for free. WiFi is free in public areas and breakfast is included. The hotel also has a spa and provides tour arrangements.

D’Tunjung is a good solid midrange option. One of the bonuses is that most of the rooms have sea views, not just one or two at the front, as is the case of the majority of other hotels along Jalan Raya Candi Dasa.
