Comfortable and style with a personal touch
Less than a kilometre from the beach along Jalan Pantai Berawa, Puri Ayu Bali is a stylish and warmly welcoming family-run guesthouse.
Within the family compound, various buildings house five rooms; a generous communal area which includes a living and dining room plus a kitchen; open bales to relax; a swimming pool as well as the family home.
Elegantly decorated with a style that reflects this family’s mixed origins, Balinese and French, art and antiques fill the (mostly) spacious, tiled, air-con rooms offering the warmth, charm, comfort and personal touches of a home rather than a hotel.
Spotlessly clean with quality linens and bouncy beds—everything is as you need it, and if not the family are willing to please. Rooms are appointed with hot-water ensuite bathrooms and one “villa room” adds a private living room and kitchen.
The communal space offers an excellent opportunity to meet other guests, and dine together at the large table (a simple breakfast is included in the rate, and home-cooked traditional meals by request), or just kick back and watch a bit of tellie or read a book from the library.
The deep green swimming pool is a decent ten metres, and some poolside shady lounges make it difficult to leave. For the pick of rooms, we like the one that looks to the pool, though it’s less private than others, however have a chat to the owners and they will be happy to recommend which will be most suitable for you.
We met the charming adult son, who possesses a wealth of local knowledge along with an excellent command of English. We think Puri Ayu Bali is terrific value and love the relaxing, intimate and traditional ambience.
If you enjoy having a friendly host and Puri Ayu Bali is full, Papaya Guesthouse doesn’t offer the same traditional style, but offers good old fashioned hospitality. Or if luxury and elegant tradition in a more private setting is what you seek, Hotel Tugu Bali may fit the bill (although it will cost you a few more of those said bills).

Sally spent twelve years leading tourists around Indonesia and Malaysia where she collected a lot of stuff. She once carried a 40kg rug overland across Java. Her house has been described as a cross between a museum and a library. Fuelled by coffee, she can often be found riding her bike or petting stray cats. Sally believes travel is the key to world peace.
