Hotel Dewi Warsiki is the best of a not-so-great choice of digs in Gilimanuk.

Rooms are the cleanest of the bunch, and some of the top floor rooms offer views across to Java.

The large double-storey, motel-style block faces the plant-edged carpark with plenty of car space if you’re driving. Spacious basic tiled rooms are a little pricer than you would expect, but are the best value in Gilimanuk. Rooms are air-con, and the upstairs VIP rooms provide hot-water showers, though for downstairs standards it’s only cold. King-sized beds sport spring mattresses with greyish, but clean white sheets, and a “Dutch wife” pillow. Padded bedheads remain wrapped in plastic for a Grandma’s parlour touch. They are simply furnished with a small table and chairs and desk or draws. The cheaper downstairs room is equipped with an older-style box TV and DVD player, while the upstairs rooms throw in a flatter version TV. Walls are a little scuffed, but otherwise it’s fresh and bright. Clean, but stained in the corners, bathrooms are fitted with modern western-style toilets. For hot water in the upstairs bathrooms, you’ll need to flick the switch to turn on the electric water heater. Outside the room, the shared balconies house tables and chairs to take in the sea breeze. Included breakfast is served in a small onsite restaurant area. Free WiFi is sometimes available, “but not now” we were informed. Although the main clientele is Indonesian, several friendly staff speak good English.

Hotel Dewi Warsiki is one of the closest to the ferry terminal, located on a small quieter street one back from the main drag, almost directly behind the post office. If you must overnight it in Gilimanuk, this is the place to go. During non-holiday periods, prices are negotiable. Room 228 has the best views.
