Smart and spacious midranger
Dewi Sri Hotel is a comfortable and family-friendly midrange resort smack in the middle of Kuta. Set at the end of a lane near the Kuta bombing memorial, spacious grassy grounds offer a range of accommodation choices in a four-storey, L-shaped block, double-storey bungalows and a more traditional double-storey block.
The smartly renovated rooms completed in December 2016 give Dewi Sri an edge on other standard midrange offerings in this neck of the woods. Standard and two-bedroom family rooms are located in the four-storey building, but be warned there is no lift, so if stairs are a problem, request a lower floor. This building is closer to the main street than the others, so may potentially be a little noisier. Superior and deluxe rooms sit closer to the pool. Spacious tiled air-con rooms are spick and span, furnished with solid wooden furniture with ample storage, comfy beds and tasteful decor. A carved wooden panel above the beds mirrors the tropical-style bed runners for a smart cohesive look. Superior rooms deviate from the neutral style with bright orange feature walls and runners (bring sunglasses!). Flatscreen TV and minibar are standard in all rooms, and superior and deluxe rooms add tea-making facilities and more floorspace. Safety boxes are available at reception.
The layout of the family rooms is a little odd as there is only one bathroom for the two bedrooms, an ensuite off the twin room, so unless you have young kids it is better value to book two adjacent standard rooms. For more space try the upstairs and downstairs rooms of the superior bungalows, however they are not adjoining rooms and all have separate entrances.
Clean modern bathrooms in each category offer hot-water rainfall showers and plenty of space for your bits and pieces and in some rooms the washbasins are in the main part of the room. Furnished balconies and terraces overlook the gardens or pool, or if you choose a groundfloor deluxe room offer a little more privacy and look towards a foliage-covered wall.
The large and inviting pool is the party focal point of the hotel, with swim-up bar and attached kids pool. It's edged with shaded sun lounges, tables and chairs and an open-air restaurant. Dewi Sri’s grounds are dotted with curtained massage pavilions and offer very competitive prices. A daily buffet breakfast is included in the rate and the in-house restaurant occasionally hosts live musicians. Dewi Sri is seconds away from the bright lights of Kuta’s action and a 10-minute walk to the beach.
We think Dewi Sri Hotel is a solid midrange choice—it offers a bit of space to run around without breaking the bank. If you’d like more pool than grassy lawn for your midrange spend, check out Grand Barong Resort.
