Legian’s highly praised French restaurant Pearl also offers a range of delightful quaint rooms in a quiet setting behind their back lane eatery.

Rooms are set in double-storey bungalow-style blocks enclosing a leafy garden and delightfully inviting small pool area. Clean tiled or wooden-floored air-con interiors start at cosy and simple standard rooms and range up to more spacious two-bedroom suites decorated in a contemporary style with pretty shimmery mosquito netted beds and a touch of French flair.

The higher the category the more space and furnishings you get. The spacious deluxe room with wide balcony overlooking the pool is ideal for lazing about on the daybeds, while the compact standards will offer a decent sleep too and a bit of outdoor living space on the small terrace or balcony. TVs, DVD players, safe, tea-making facilities and minibar are all standard, and modern hot-water ensuite bathrooms are either enclosed or semi-outdoor, some with tubs and others with shower only.

The organic shaped swimming pool is just the right size for a splash and shady enough not to get crispy. Sunbeds and bean bags are adequate for the number of rooms.

A simple breakfast is included in the rate, and Pearl also offers a space for yoga and meditation as well as an in-house spa set in a delightful traditional wooden house. Pearl has a no children under 15 policy, which is ideal if you seek a bit of calm relaxation.

As well as being a short stroll to the beach, plenty of shops and restaurants are nearby, although you could indulge in French cuisine nightly. We like the intimate and tranquil atmosphere at Pearl, however if they are full, consider kid-free Puri Damai for a touch of peace or if a bit more action is more your preference, you may enjoy the busy and popular modern-style Ossotel.
