The Bandha is an upmarket modern-style hotel offering elegant and serene rooms and suites surrounding a central paved square blanketed in sun lounges and edged with a moat-style “lagoon” swimming pool.

An additional pool at the ocean side of the hotel runs to their popular sea-facing restaurant, Mozzarella. The Bandha was barely a year old when we popped by in June 2017, and still spic and span.

The main lobby is in a bit of an odd location, down a narrow laneway off Jalan Padma Utara, next to Ossotel. From here you can also access their older sister property, Bali Niksoma, with very similar but marginally pricier rooms and larger sea-facing pool.

Spacious air-con interiors are decked out with gleaming pale marble floors and contemporary teak furniture. The look is understated and sophisticated and invites you to relax on the luxe linens of the comfy beds or kick back and indulge in a movie on the large flatscreen TV. Additional amenities include a minibar and tea maker. Modern ensuite bathrooms are similarly chic and stylish. The majority of rooms face towards the central courtyard and offer furnished balconies overlooking the pool and the pick of these enjoy direct lagoon access—slide off your balcony and swim to the bar. Request a decent view when you book as some rooms look to the uninspiring driveway, but only top categories offer ocean vistas. A buffet breakfast is includes in the rate.

Rooms are lovely and staff are friendly and helpful, but The Bandha lacks the beautiful gardens of other nearby resorts and although they offer family rooms, there’s nowhere for kids to run about—the vibe is more “adult”. If you’re after a party atmosphere, this is not the place for you either, but if you seek a serene spot to recharge and lay about by the pool or hop across the street to the beach (there’s not a lot else to do), you could do worse.

If you like the tranquil style, but The Bandha is a bit exy, their other sister property in Kuta, The Magani, is moderately less of a dint in the bank account.
