Villa Dua Bintang

Villa Dua Bintang

Secluded jungle-view hotel

More on Munduk

In a quiet location away from the busy main road, Villa Dua Bintang offer fabulous jungle mountain views from comfortable and spacious rooms.

Travelfish says:

Doubles and family rooms overhang the cliff, built from wood with huge glass picture windows on two sides, inviting in the natural soundings. Exposed wood and bamboo-clad walls, along with dark stone coloured tiles, add to the earthy ambience. Large solid wood double beds have cosy patchwork batik quilts and crisp white sheets. A substantial rustic daybed and coffee table attempt to fill up the large rooms. Family rooms go over the top and add two of these monstrous comfy lounges. Natural-coloured curtains are a tad thin, and probably won’t block the blazing morning light, but the jungle sounds may wake you anyway. Balconies add tables and chairs for alternative forest gazing. Semi-open natural stone hot-water bathrooms provide their own mini jungle too.

Down some very steep stairs, two large bungalows sit one above the other in their own private gardens. They are in a similar style to the other rooms, but walls, floors and furniture are all dark wood. Two large beds and two enormous daybeds still leave plenty of room for naked disco dancing (or whatever it is you do in large empty spaces). High ceilings with exposed beams add to the feeling of openness. Ensuite bathrooms are the same natural stone style as the other rooms. You won’t need fans or air-con in this cool mountain area, which is a good thing as neither are provided.

The whole place is well maintained and looked brand new when we visited in June 2016 even though they opened in 2013. Up on the ridge, Villa Dua Bintang’s restaurant have the same commanding views and serve local favourites. They also offer a cooking class. Breakfast and WiFi are included in the rate. Friendly staff make the place more welcoming, and they mentioned a swimming pool is planned, which would make it an even better deal.

We love the secluded and tranquil ambience of Villa Dua Bintang but the location 500 metres off the main road that runs through Munduk village, and another kilometre into the centre of the village, may be too isolated for some. If you’re after a bit of solitude, it’s perfect. If you like the sound of this location and would like a more budget friendly option, Geriya Siena Guest House, opened in early 2016, has good rooms from 250,000 rupiah.

Sally spent twelve years leading tourists around Indonesia and Malaysia where she collected a lot of stuff. She once carried a 40kg rug overland across Java. Her house has been described as a cross between a museum and a library. Fuelled by coffee, she can often be found riding her bike or petting stray cats. Sally believes travel is the key to world peace.
