The name is a hint, but you’ll find friendly, family-run The Bridge Huts just 250 metres south of Nusa Ceningan’s yellow bridge.

A narrow grassy garden extends from the road to the sea, and here a neat row of cute wooden bungalows runs down to a weeny oceanfront infinity swimming pool, a glorious spot for sunset views. The huts are a tad close together considering there’s so much space in the garden, but that may be just forward planning by the owners with room to expand.

Tread carefully over the stepping stones of your own mini-pond to enter the neat and clean air-con bungalows. The simple all-wood interiors are a little dark but provide a very comfy mosquito-netted bed with an extra plush mattress and crisp white sheets, all encouraging of a good night’s sleep; just watch the sharp corners of the wooden bed that extends beyond the mattress. Additionally there are bedside tables with lamps, built-in open storage and a minibar (on request) along with a rather perplexing portrait in the room we viewed of Che Guevara wearing a traditional Balinese Baris warrior outfit!?

Watch your step as you enter the open-air stone- and pebble-clad ensuite bathroom. A riverstone basin continues the theme with a small bench for lotions, and here the showers are warm, too. From the small furnished balcony enjoy partial views of the setting sun and the sea; the closer to the road they are, the more they are partial.

Smart rooms for the spend.

The pool is very pretty but small, and overlooks a patch of sand and across to Nusa Lembongan. There’s little shade when you swim, so slap on the sun block, or simply slide into a shaded sun lounger. Poolside, an open bale offers more opportunity for ocean gazing, beer sipping, enjoying your included breakfast, or just having a good old natter to the very friendly owners.

We like The Bridge Huts, but as with most accommodation in this part of the world, think it’s a tad pricey for little more than the basics. If a spacious, bright tiled room appeals more than a cute wooden bungalow, check out Seaweed Villa, 250 metres further down the road. Or for similar style huts with a better view, try The Ocean Sunset Villas near Jenny’s Place.
