Spotless, cheap and friendly
For folk who plan to spend the entire day at the beach and need nothing more than a comfortable bed and a decent shower, Sari Rooms Bed and Breakfast is simply the cleanest and least expensive option we found in Tanjung Benoa, not to mention the extremely friendly and accommodating hosts.
We must say when we first walked in we were not that impressed (other than by the friendly staff), as this is more a hotel-style set up rather than a standard Balinese-style guesthouse with a bit of garden or outdoor area. The characterless rooms are above the street front warung smack on the main drag, housed in a long narrow modern building with a central corridor, however they are bright, comfortable and immaculately clean and despite the busy road, quiet too.
The decent size tiled air-con rooms enjoy good natural light with a very comfy bed sporting clean white linen, bedside tables with lamps, a desk (although we had to borrow a chair from the warung), lockable wardrobe and flatscreen TV. The small ensure bathroom is wet style but a rack will keep your towel and clothes dry and the shower is powerful and hot with a small washbasin outside the wet room. Rooms are serviced daily (something that doesn’t often happen in a small guesthouse) and gleamed on our return with fresh towels and a smartly made bed. A simple but tasty breakfast is included, served in the busy warung below who also offer other meals and low priced cold Bintang. Although there is no garden or pool, guests tend to gather here and it can be quite social. Water bottles can be refilled from the dispenser in the warung to reduce your plastic usage.
Staff are very friendly, kind and helpful, but not all speak English. A small spa is part of the same complex and we were offered a free 15 minute neck rub (although failed to find time to take up the offer). Sari Rooms Bed and Breakfast offers good value in this part of Bali, but if you prefer your cheap sleep with a bit more of a social atmosphere, check out the dorms at House of D16 Art Hostel in Nusa Dua. For an old-school option, Pondok Hasan Inn has very basic clean rooms in a Balinese style longhouse with a tiny garden.
