Pretty beachfront garden
At the quieter end of Jungut Batu Beach facing Shipwrecks surf break, family run Yogi Beach Bungalows offer basic but spotless brick bungalows and rooms in a larger double-storey block within a pretty beachfront garden.
Good-sized tiled rooms are light flooded and airy, and are equipped with both air-con and ceiling fans, good for keeping mozzies at bay. Sheer curtains and heavier drapes ensure privacy and a sleep in when you don’t want it too bright. Rooms are furnished with a wooden bed, sporting a rather firm mattress, a bedside table and lamp (only on one side) and a minibar.
Local mass-market art and throw cushions brighten the otherwise bland beige interiors. Tiled ensuite hot-water bathrooms are functional and clean, and although we didn’t view them, ensuites in the bungalows are open-air-style. As with much of the accommodation around the island, water in the bathroom is slightly brackish.
Some rooms enjoy sea views from the bed, and all have at least a decent glimpse from the wide furnished terraces. Try to bag the bungalow at the front for the best outlook, or for a quieter room with a view, the front-facing upstairs room in the larger block. The owners obviously take a lot of pride in the garden. For now it offers little shade, but the manicured lawn dotted with immature trees feels cool underfoot and when the trees grow will be even more pleasant. For a spot out of the sun, pull up one of the shade-cloth-sheltered sun loungers on the sand.
Breakfast is not included, but available from the small on-site restaurant. Staff rent motorbikes and can arrange snorkelling tours. Yogi’s may be no-frills, but the relaxing vibe make it a decent beachfront choice in Jungut Batu. As with anywhere on the island, if you’d like a few more facilities for the same coin, move inland.

Sally believes travel is the key to world peace.
