Almost nothing beats a sea view, and nothing beats a sea view from the luxury of a comfortable bed. And for pure unadulterated luxurious indulgence, the sea views from the beds at The Legian are pretty impressive.

This top-notch beachfront resort offers 67 suites over four floors, stretching along Seminyak Beach’s sands and every room offers unobstructed sea vistas. We are rather happy in a basic beach hut, but The Legian certainly appealed to our inner hedonist, offering our favourite high-end rooms along this strip.

Unfortunately, and somewhat annoyingly, we were forbidden to take photos at the hotel, however they let us happily snap away at their nearby villas which offer an almost identical style, without the view, so photos of the interiors here are only indicative.

Suites start at the-far-from-basic studios, up to the two-bedroom Legian Suite. The understated, sophisticated modern-tropical style employs natural finishes and a neutral palette with parquet floors and minimalist white walls accented with original artworks and artefacts collected from around the archipelago. Although not in the hotel itself but in one of the villas, we were not impressed with a collection of turtle shells on display—endangered species should not be decorator items. However we encountered no such displays at the hotel.

What is particularly impressive are the wide outdoor terraces perfect for dining and lounging in the warm topical breeze. As you would expect, everything is of exquisite quality with fine linens and plush furnishings; not a thread is out of place and you'll find all the latest technology including iPods, Bose entertainment systems and an espresso machine.

Ensuite bathrooms offer indulgent lotion and are as luxurious as one could imagine. A complementary minibar is replenished daily, and rates include breakfast in your suite or the restaurant and afternoon tea plus daily yoga sessions to start your day (not too early!). Pack your bike shorts as there are included bicycles to explore the area too.

The higher the category, of course, the greater the benefits; some include club access with daily cocktails up to a dedicated private butler service (just like our favourite beach hut).

Positioned between the rooms and the surf, a wide expanse of immaculately manicured lawn, punctuated with fragrant frangipanis and swaying palms leads the way to the three-tiered infinity swimming pools overlooking the ocean, with dedicated areas for kids, families and adults-only. The Legian enjoys several in-house eating options, and to rejuvenate and relax, a spa. If you have short folk in tow, seasonal kids activities are scheduled in (European) summer and holiday periods. If you have something special to celebrate or are just filthy rich and are in the market for a luxury property during your Bali holiday, you can’t really go wrong with The Legian.
