Oallas Lifestyle Rooms is the sort of place we are reluctant to share, as we want to keep this delightful spot all to ourselves; indeed, we’d be happy to just move right in.

A little out of central Seminyak on Jalan Umalas II, this small boutique hotel offers six suite-style rooms with living areas and kitchenettes backing onto a tree-edged stream. Two modern double-storey buildings with traditional thatch roofs flank a small central swimming pool, with three suites accommodated in each block, two smaller on the lower levels and one larger above.

The rooms are rather exquisitely decorated.

Oallas Lifestyle Rooms’ website states higher prices for the larger rooms, yet when we enquired, staff offered the same rates for all. Some rooms open to the swimming pool, and others offer more privacy with balconies overlooking the jungle of riverside trees. The immaculate air-con suites have dark hardwood floors with richly coloured or white-painted walls bestowing a quality feel to the light-flooded rooms. Each is individually styled, and decor ranges from modern-tropical with rattan furniture though to a more classic homely style with rich textiles and art-filled walls. We were only able to view a couple of rooms, and it seems the photos on their website are a little out of date as those we viewed are superior to what is presented (it’s usually the other way around!).

We were particular taken with the Meranti room, which has a pleasant leafy outlook including a huge tree growing through the private outdoor terrace. The style here is classic and luxurious with personal touches that make it feel more like a comfortable home than a hotel. Indeed staff mentioned that this is the room the Javanese owner stays in when they visit. However if that room is occupied, others are equally charming.

Some rooms offer a full kitchen, and others it’s more of a tea-and-toast-only kitchenette, so depending on your needs, enquire when you book. Spacious bathrooms provide hot-water showers, and some add a tub. Suites are roomy enough for extra beds if you are travelling with kids, and at least one offers a “nanny’s room” for staff with a separate bathroom, although from outside it looked more like the size of a cupboard (we didn’t view the interior).

The swimming pool enjoys a delightful jungle feel, shaded by towering trees. We didn’t see any poolside furniture, except for on the private terraces nearby, but a sunny paved section is an ideal spot to lay out a towel. Charming staff said breakfast isn’t included, but can be arranged; decent coffee and divine French pastries are only two minutes away at Monsieur Spoon. Did we mention we love this peaceful corner of the world? So now you know, please forget we told you. For a similar luxurious feel in a small boutique hotel Villa Karisa offers a more central location. If this location appeals, you can also consider Aliya Boutique Hotel nearby.
