Kubu Tani Homestay

Planning on staying a bit longer in Sideman and would like your own cooking facilities? Charming Kubu Tani Homestay offers fully-equipped kitchens, plus the three double-storey traditional houses entertain extensive unobstructed views over the ricefields to Gunung Agung.

Each is individually styled, with a lovely leisurely ambiance. While the houses are old and a little rickety in places, they have been quite well maintained. Downstairs, the kitchen and comfortable lounge open to a wide furnished terrace. Antiques and hand-woven songket add authentic local touches. Semi-outdoor hot-water bathrooms with large tubs (one is a magnificent hollowed boulder) lead off the kitchen area. A narrow spiral staircase connects to the upper level — you’d want to be careful coming down in the dark.

The bedroom and another spacious terrace are upstairs, and one of the houses we viewed had an additional basic bathroom on the second level too, handy to avoid those stairs. Mosquito netted beds add romance, and a daybed provides other sleeping options for families. One of the houses has a small bridge leading to the upper room from the deck, and while it opens up the lower floor and looks great, it’s not suitable for travellers with young kids. The houses are light, airy and open and invite nature in, so if bugs and small creatures bother you, look elsewhere.

Kubu Tani Homestay feels private and comfortable — it invites you to put your feet up, take some time out and enjoy local village life. We love the houses and think they are pretty good value considering what you get. Breakfast is included and If you’re not interested in cooking for yourself, staff can cook for you, or venture to one of the local restaurants.

The rice fields just go on and on.

Kubu Tani Homestay doesn’t have a swimming pool, but it’s possible to swim at some of the nearby sister hotels. We were unable to view the third slightly more expensive house, but were told it’s similar but a bit newer.
