Bright and leafy
Super friendly with a lovely leafy cliffside outlook, D’Cliff House is located at the quite southern end of Jalan Goutama.
Spacious bright rooms are light-filled and very clean, housed in a modern triple-storey structure built into the cliffside.
Modern, simple wooden furnishings include a comfy bed, bedside tables and a small desk and clean latte-brown linen adds a bit of colour to the pale decor. The tiled rooms are cooled with a ceiling fan and glass doors to the balcony open wide to catch the breeze. The trees and chirping birds give the impression you’re in a small village rather than smack bang in the middle of busy Ubud. Basic modern tiled bathrooms are spic and span and provide hot-water showers. Some rooms were still under construction when we visited in early November 2016, and the owner mentioned he has future plans for a swimming pool. A basic on-site spa offers massages to sooth those sore sight-seeing mussels. Breakfast and WiFi are included in the rate.
D’Cliff House offers discounts for a longer stay, making it even better value — an excellent flashpacker choice in this part of town. Raka and Rai Bungalows on Jalan Monkey Forest offer a similar outlook with a swimming pool for the same price, however the rooms are older and not as well kept.

Sally spent twelve years leading tourists around Indonesia and Malaysia where she collected a lot of stuff. She once carried a 40kg rug overland across Java. Her house has been described as a cross between a museum and a library. Fuelled by coffee, she can often be found riding her bike or petting stray cats. Sally believes travel is the key to world peace.
