Someone in the Den Den Mushi family has an eye for style as these lovely simple rooms feel more like a boutique hotel than a basic homestay.
Tiled interiors are fan-cooled with pale floors and walls and contrasting wooden trims and furnishings. Tasteful subtly coloured soft furnishings and bedding add an extra zing and give the room an authentic homely warmth. Particularly impressive are the smart modern tiled bathrooms with square sinks and glass-screened hot water showers.
Wide furnished terraces and balconies offer outdoor living and the top floor rooms look over the lush and beautiful grounds and gardens of the family compound — excellent for sunset viewing too. The buildings, though modern, are not at all sterile and exteriors embrace traditional Balinese style with carved stonework and detailing. The whole place is fastidiously clean and well cared for. Breakfast, coffee anytime and WiFi are included in the rates.
We love the cosy and relaxed ambiance of this family-run homestay and think it’s an excellent value deal. The homestay is located in a quiet lane behind Jalan Hanoman, where there are several other excellent and welcoming options if Den Den Mushi Homestay are full. Ubudku Guesthouse is a little higher up price brackets, but offers stylish air-con rooms with a friendly family vibe and nearby Pio-Pio House sports bright airy rooms with lovely garden views.
